Fabric Tags

We have a snow day here in North Carolina
(mind you that doesn't mean we ACTUALLY received any snow)
and since it was an unplanned free day I had a chance to knock out some quick tags
on canvas fabric bases.

The first tag I started with a
blank piece of canvas and painted all over with various acrylic paints & inks.
I added some stenciling and scribbling with a Sharpie and a WhiteOut pen.

The heart was cut from a Gelli print.
Metal arrow and RubOn words.

The lace on the bottom was dyed with several Distress Stains.

For the next tag I stamped all over a piece of canvas using
the large flower stamp and StazOn ink.
I then used multiple colors of DyNaFlow fabric paint to paint in my flowers.
Black paint and a pencil eraser for dots.

I fussy cut some of the flowers and layered them over each other for a bit of dimension.
Tucked in some ribbon under the different layers. and added a vintage bird image.

That's it for today.
Thanks for stopping by and have a good one.

Documented Life Project 2016: The unPlanner

So I once again joined up with the
This will be my 3rd year participating and the title this year is
The un-Planner.

The first challenges went up yesterday.
As I am still trying to figure if I want to do the planner part or keep it solely as an art journal
I decided to just do the first part.
I made a tag,
which in my zeal turned into a tag book.
And a small card that I will somehow incorporate into a future page.
This was the front of my tag book.
Here are the inside pages.
I kept it fairly simple (for me)
the color is distress ink over gesso with some stamping on top.

I picked out a word or 2 for each page along with a corresponding
embellishment.

Some cheesecloth was misted with Tattered Angels mist and sewn in.
The little canvas pieces I found in the
$1 bin at Michaels.
Sprayed with the same Tattered Angels mist and glued in.
Stitches were "added' with a gel pen.

These are the back pages.
I left the very back page blank for journaling or as a spot to adhere to my journal.
Again I haven't decided how I am going about this so lots of random pieces right now.

This is a little card I did up to add somewhere as well.
The words are rub ons.
The flowers stamped then colored with gel pens.
Finally some seam binding stitched on.

This is looking like it will turn into another fun year long project.
Love how it is open to each of us to interpret as we wish.

Thanks for stopping by and
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Tags, tags, and more tags

Today I thought I'd share a few more tags with you.

For me tags are fun to create. They go together fairly quick. You can make them as simple or as elaborate as you'd like, and they are great to either keep as decorations or tuck into a friend's bag or purse to brighten a day.

This past weekend was National Scrapbook Day.
I didn't get to do much scrapping as I spent most of the weekend on the soccer field. I did however get to make up 2 quick tags for challenges on the Flying Unicorn forum.

This first tag is fairly simple, some heavy mist on the background  followed up with layers of flowers and butterflies.

This tag first had embossing done and then covered with Distress ink.
The butterflies are rub ons and the flowers I made from a quilling kit.
I usually shy away from handmade flowers but these went together really quick and easy.

Lastly is this tag that is WAY outside my color comfort zone.
Red & Orange on the background, yes I was having palpatations lol.
Some burlap and lace were layered on before adding the chipboard elements from Prima.
Just a closeup of the layers

So there you have it, tags for the day.

Next time you are thinking of creating but don't have a lot of time, give a tag a chance. You'll be glad you did.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Tag share day...

Sharing a bunch of tags today that I've created for Scrapbook News and Review.

I love creating tags. They are the perfect way to try new techniques, color combinations and papers.
They go together fairly quick but the small space doesn't cause you to use up a ton of supplies.

You can attach them to cards, packages, hang on the wall and leave as is.
I always try to do at least a couple of them a month just to keep the mojo flowing.

This Gothic Arch tag is layers of acrylic paint over book text followed by stamping & more paint.
I did it as a top 10 as to what I am loving about my daughter right now. She's the middle one and often feels overlooked and constantly persecuted (the true middle child syndrome lol).
By doing up this quick colorful tag I was able to show her that YES we do appreciate and love you!

This tag incorporates inchies on it. The background is a crumpled sewing pattern applied with Gel Medium and rubbed with some brown ink.
There are a bunch of rub ons as well in random spots to simulate stitching. While I do love my sewing machine it's quick and easy to pull out the rub ons.

This tag uses a bunch of Graphic 45 scraps. I save even the tiniest pieces of paper and tags are a fun way to use them up. The black & white image is from an old magazine from my stash that seemed to go perfectly with the papers.
I finished it off with a flower made from book text.

Office supplies are another fun item to use on tags. You can get large quantities cheap and they add fun accents.
Here the background was created with Distress Stains and rub ons. I used some of those hole reinforcers and paperclips from the office supply store. The image is from a package of a sewing pattern and I pulled in more scraps and a bit of Washii tape.

Finally this is my favorite tag that I have created recently.
The background is a painted paper towel that my oldest provided me with. I used a stencil and Pitt Pen to created the circles under the image. I added a collage image and 3 ribbon strips to finish.
The colors on this one are outside my normal color palette but I love how it turned out.
Tags are another way to try new color combinations.

I hope next time you are stuck in a color rut, want to try a new technique or use up scraps you are inspired to try a tag.
They are so much fun to do I bet you can't stop at just one.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
