Make a Mess..an art journal page.

It's another day of playing without and end result in mind.

This page was inspired by Song Li on 

the Flying Unicorn forum.

She created such a fun bold piece that immediately caught my eye and had me wanting to create.

This is what I created today.

I covered my page with Gesso and let dry.

Then using a spatula I spread Gel Medium through a Crafter's Workshop

diamond stencil.

The medium will act as a resist for the water based mists I was planing on using once it is dry.

I used 3 coloring mediums here:

First I randomly misted with Heidi Swapp's ColorShine in Georgia Peach.

I love how the mist looks on the Gesso, almost mottled in appearance redder in some places, orange in others.

Making sure to dry the page completely before the addition of more color.

Then I dripped Ayeeda Ink in Sky Blue onto the page & misted with water.

The Ayeeda Ink is water based so the addition of more water caused it to drip and pool in places.

LOVE IT.

You can also see in spots where it traveled around the Gel Medium texture.

After drying the piece completely again I misted in spots with Tattered Angels Plain Jane Baseboard mist in

Plain Daffodil.

The yellow added an extra pop of color as well as mixing with the previously applied colors.

I used my heat gun before the last mist could reactivate the others too much.

Some stamping with a check stamp and StazOn ink.

The title was created by placing stickers down, tracing with a Sharpie marker, and then removing the stickers.

Using a fine tip paintbrush and Gesso I colored in the letters.

I had to go with this title, as I was playing I definitely made a mess, 

but it was oh so fun.

So go ahead…make a mess :)

Keep on playing...

Today's art journal page started out as play and then a keep on working until you are happy with it kind of moment.

The base was a grid of color created with my Gelatos over Gesso.

In the land of "one layer is never enough" I kept adding more.

First some script stamping.

Then I put Gesso through a Dylusions stencil and outlined the circles.

ICK.

This is not looking good!

Followed by me blowing Ayeed Water Inks across my page with a straw.

(now I've reached the what in the world am I doing stage)

I dipped my paintbrush in Black Marble Dylusions mist and outlined my color grid and the circles again.

Better...maybe.

Stamped my favorite flower stamp (from Unity) and outlined it with black Sharpie. Painted the inside with Gesso to give a more neutral surface and colored over that with a Faber Castell Pitt Pen.

Outlined AGAIN with a Sharpie the highlites with a white gel pen.

Starting to like...

Added a quote onto a small piece of a Gelli Print.

Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful

 Kind of along the lines I worked and worked until I managed to get something I actually like.

It made me happy.

And finally some big black flourishes, mostly to tone the color down even more.

So my advice to you; don't give up when creating. Keep plugging away and you may end up with something that makes you happy.

Just playing today...

Today I want to share an art journal page that came about from playing.

I didn't sit down (or stand for that matter as I stand when I work) to create a page, actually I wasn't planning on creating.

I ordered 3 of the Ayeeda Water Inks from the Flying Unicorn store and they came yesterday.

I wasn't even sure what the inks were like until I opened them up.

MY OH MY...I bought 3 colors I am going back for all lol.

I dropped several drops of each color onto a pieces of watercolor paper and misted with water.

My page was instantly covered with beautiful bright color.

That was it...

I had to do something with it immediately.

I dropped some Liquitex Acrylic Inks onto the page to get some splats.

Gesso through a stencil.

Stamping, then 2 Tsukineko inks (Paprika & Lapislazuli) through a Crafter's Workshop Stencils and a Stencil Girl  stencil.

                                 

The flowers were stamped onto book text and cut out. After adhering them to my page I rubbed Gesso around them with my finger to blend all the colors. Colored them with Gelatos then outlined them with a Graphitint pencil by Dewent.

My butterflies were stamped and then painted over with Teal Zircon Silks Acrylic Glaze.

They have more color in real life but seeing as we are getting pouring rain from the first tropical storm of the season I couldn't get a great picture.

The quote is a Tim Holtz stamp.

The words were each cut out, inked then outlined after being put on the page.

This was such a fun page to do.

I was able to play with a ton of product new and old and while I was just trying to see what something could do my mojo took off.

Always a happy day when that happens.
