Mojo Monday with Flying Unicorn

Every week there is a new sketch challenge on the 

Flying Unicorn forum

called MOJO MONDAY.

Now I never get these done early and rarely in the week they come out 

so it's always a little bit of Happy Dance

time when I get one done before the next one comes out.

Here is the sketch for the week

designed by the Flying Unicorn owner ,Alda.

It's perfect for family photos we took 3 YEARS AGO 

and I just rediscovered sitting in their original envelope

(don't judge)

I used the December kit from Flying Unicorn

which came jam packed with all sorts of 13Arts goodies,

from the paper used, to mists, to awesome new stencils.

Fun fun fun!

The 3 circle chipboard pieces come from Creative Embellishments

and are perfect for this sketch (they came in the kit too).

I covered them with Silver acrylic paint and then a light misting from Tattered Angels 

Glimmer mist in Slate.

The letters are reeeaaaallly old Glimmer Chips from Tattered Angels.

They are misted with both 13Arts & Glimmer Mist.

There are Petaloo flowers, Prima resin & wood pieces.

I dug more reaaaallly old clock faces out and tucked them here and there.

The background has some random stamping,

misting with 13Arts mist in Woodbine and grey ink through a 

13Arts stencil.

Be You…BE BOLD!

Sharing another art journal page today.

This one was inspired by a challenge over on the

Flying Unicorn forum.

The Art Journal challenge is held every month and is always a favorite of mine to play along with.

Song Li is hosting this month and her challenge was to

GO BOLD.

Love it!

This was the first piece I created.

I combined Paint, Mist, Stamping, Modeling Paste, Stencils, Pan Pastels,

old felt flowers, cheesecloth, doilies, and last but not least dry wall tape.

PHEW….

I also thought I would share a bit of step by step as I went about creating.

Keep on scrolling to check it out.

To begin I adhered doilies, felt flowers,

cheesecloth & tape to my page.

I then covered everything with a layer of Gesso to give a neutral base.

Once the Gesso dried I misted the page with Vibez Jeni B Blue 

by Shimmerz paints.

Using a wet brush I spread color over the whole page,

then misted more to get some drips.

Did some large splatters with Liquitex Acrylic ink and a dropper.

As I dried the ink I blew it across the page some more.

Once all the ink was dry I stamped randomly with 

StazOn and a check stamp.

Modeling Paste through a Crafter's Workshop stencil.

I then dried the paste with my heat gun to give it a bubbly texture.

When the paste was completely dry I colored it with Orange Pan Pastel.

Since I knew I would add more layers I quickly sprayed the page with workable fixative.

This allows me to continue to layer but preserves the Pan Pastels as it is.

I took watered down purple paint in needle nose bottle 

and scribbled across the page.

My letters were covered with black embossing powder,

melted then outline with a Montana Acrylic Paint marker

It's all white now….and it's harder than it sounds!

So while I was checking out the challenges this month on the

Flying Unicorn Forum

I came across one hosted by Denise called

It's all white now.

Ok

My interest is peaked.

The rules:

 Your layout must be all white. Off white is ok and so is ivory but no color!
 You must use a black and white or sepia photo. No color pictures.
 You must use a stencil
 Must use Gesso, molding paste, or white paint.
 Must have at least 7 flowers.
Must have at least 1 embellie

I knew no matter what other challenges I did this month I HAD

to do this one.

It really is a challenge!

First off I had to find some white paper. 

Seeing as I apparently have used every piece of printed white paper I created my own background design on a piece of Bazzill Basics.

Using a large crackle stamp by Impression Obsession and white

embossing powder I created an all over background pattern.

My 7 flowers were a combination of fabric ones cut off a strip of tulle

and some Petaloo ones. 

The center beads were gold and I repainted them White with 

High Impact paint from Tattered Angels.

Modeling Paste through a Club Scrap stencil.

I heated it with my heat gun to get a bubbly sort of grunge effect to go with my photo.

You can see the embossing really well in this shot too.

The Moments title is a clear Prima sticker.

You can also see where I melted the edges of my photo in spots,

started as an accident but was a happy one.

The melted edges so fit the photo.

Lace was layered under the photo 

and 2 stick pins were added as embellishments.

And this is my all white layout.

It was most definitely a challenge once I got going.

This girl needs color!

Mojo Monday at Flying Unicorn

Every Monday on the 

Flying Unicorn forum a new sketch is revealed.

The Mojo Monday sketches are without a doubt gorgeous on their own.

You have a week to create a layout and enter in for a random prize drawing.

I always want to play but time seems to get away from me and before I know it the week has come and gone.

Not this time!

This is the sketch that was provided...

and this is what I created.

I used paper, flowers and several die cuts from a 

Flying Unicorn mixed media kit.

Can you say versatile?

The paper is from FabScraps.

Some dry brushed Gesso and stamping with a BoBunny stamp.

A piece of Glitz Design paper is layered with a doily, gauze,

Prima wood pieces, 7Dots Studio Die Cuts and some very old Melissa Frances stickers.

The flowers are from Prima.

My flourishes were created with Perfect Pearls on a transparency, trimmed and adhered with Glossy Accents.

This frame…Melissa Frances from 2007.

Love using up old product with new.

Flying Unicorn

hosts challenges every month on their forum board.

I love checking them out and joining up when I can.

This layout was created for one of them.

USE YOUR STASH

You had to create a layout using paper at least 6 months old,

and incorporate at least 2 embellishments that old as well.

6 months!!!!!

I'm a HOARDER

(probably why I am on the Craft Hoarders Anonymous design team lol)

6 months is nothing!

I went with Basic Grey paper from 2011.

The Out of Print series which I have hoarded for a VERRRRRRYYYYY

long time.

I added some stamping with a Prima stamp.

Lindy's Stamp Gang embossing powder was used after ink was rubbed

through a Dylusions stencil to create the diamonds.

The chipboard is from UmWow Studios.

Covered in the same embossing powder as my diamonds.

There is also some Washii tape layered about.

There is some Pink Silk's Acrylic glaze rubbed around the page for a bit of added color.

The flowers, buttons and white chipboard flourish are even older than the paper,

we are talking years here (told you I HOARD).

The letters are black foam Thickers, of which I have sheets and sheets of.

I've used up some stash today, that means I can shop more, right????

Mojo Monday and Flying Unicorn….

Every Monday they release a new sketch on the

Flying Unicorn forum and call it 

MOJO MONDAY.

The sketch challenge lasts one week and is open to everyone.

Every week I have full intention of completing the sketch then time gets away and a new one is posted.

Well today I completed this week's sketch…

it only took me 6 days.

Here is the awesome sketch created by Alda...

And here is my interpretation of it.

I wound up using one of the mixed media kits from the Flying Unicorn store.

I love how totally versatile they are.

The chipboard is Blue Fern.

Dylusions mist in Crushed Grape.

The rub ons are from Tim Holtz.

There is sewing pattern tissue paper and cheesecloth layered in with the traditional papers

from FabScraps.

Little more drippings (they make me happy)

The flowers are Kaisercraft and the bling is Prima.

Another layout from this past weekend's cyber crop at

Flying Unicorn.

The challenge for this one was to scrap where you wanted to be,

preferably someplace warm,

and use bright colors.

I used this picture from our 2012 trip to Italy.

Man oh man was it warm there and currently

I am desperately wishing for it to be even half as warm here.

The photo is of Ponte Vecchio in Florence.

The patterned papers are from The Scrap Cake.

Silk's Acrylic Glaze was painted through a Crafter's Workshop stencil

then circled with white chalk.

Ranger paint was dabbed through sequin waste.

Stamping with a Kaisercraft stamp and Archival ink.

Dylusions mist was sprayed and dripped.

Liquitex Acrylic ink was splattered across the page.

Tape, ribbon and a clear die cut were layered under the photo.

I know I know…

I used this pic last week as well, BUT it was perfect for this layout and now oldest gets a copy and I get a copy.

WIN WIN.

This past weekend there was an online crop at Flying Unicorn.

In one of the challenges Shona provided a sketch for us to use.

I wound up loving the sketch and this is what I came up with

All paper is from 7 Dots Studio.

There were found papers, tissue paper and masking tape adhered

to it then covered with Gesso.

Lindy's Stamp Gang Moon Shadow mist was then misted heavily and blown around the page.

There is also some Silk's Acrylic Glaze applied in spots.

The flowers and wood pieces are from Prima.

Chipboard from Blue Fern (I think) was colored with chalk ink

and then highlighted in spots with more Silks.

There is stamping on the background with  Kaisercraft and Club Scrap stamps.

You can see the tape and tissue paper here.

1st Edition

On the Flying Unicorn forum

Adrienne shared a technique called 

DEFINE THE LINES.

I used the tutorial and created this layout yesterday using a piece of Prima paper, cork, Gesso & mists

This is my oldest, and while cleaning my desk I found this piece of paper saying 1st Edition, perfect!

The paper was washed with Gesso and then heavily misted with Crushed Shells and Latte Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels followed up with Ghostly Gargoyle White by Lindy's Stamp Gang.

My flowers are made from a thin sheet of cork. I stamped on them using a background stamp from Club Scrap and Gesso. The cork was sticky back so it was easy to place my petals on the paper. I outlined them with my black fine tip Sharpie and used Petaloo buttons for the middles.

Black Gesso was brushed through a Crafter's Workshop stencil. Periodically I would flip the stencil to get a reverse image or blotch. Some eyelash fiber and a few flowers from Recollections finish off the page.
