February Challenge at Craft Hoarders Anonymous!

Are you ready for another challenge at 

Craft Hoarders Anonymous?

This month's challenge is a perfect way to create a piece for that 

"someone special"

in your life.

                                                                 How I Love Thee 
     You may create a Valentine, anniversary, wedding, or other love-themed project for this challenge. You may create something that has the word "LOVE" on it. Dig into your hoard and find all those hoarded hearts and pink sequins and doves and wedding paper that you have been saving for just the right project!

I created an 8x8 canvas for the challenge.

Prima and SEI specialty paper are the base.

Layered with drywall tape, Washii tape, stamping and modeling paste.

The sentiment was stamped on vellum,

traced over with a Copic marker,

and framed with a resin frame by Prima.

Create any type or style of project you wish, as long as you pick ONE (1) item from each category in the chart below! Choose your cardstock, printed paper, or other base (box, canvas, tray, etc.). Next, choose your adhesive. Finally, from the chart below, choose your coloring medium, fiber, technique, texture, and embellishments for your project! The combinations are almost endless! (You may choose more than one item from each category, but you MUST have AT LEAST ONE from each!) Have fun, and welcome to a NEW YEAR at Craft Hoarders Anonymous!

This is what I have made using the above chart.

I used the Beloved kit from Swirlydoos to create this layout of me and the youngest.

From the list I have;

Spray Mist, Paint, Twine, Stamping, Distressing Tool, Chipboard, Metal,

Flowers, Buttons, & Bling.

Whew!

Sketchabilities 129 with Swirlydoos Treasured Yesterdays kit

Sharing a layout today created using the new sketch from

Sketchabilities.

This is sketch 129

and it's PERFECT for some custom background making.

I paired the sketch with the October kit

Treasured Yesterdays

from Swirlydoos.

This is the page I created.

The base paper is from Prima's Epiphany collection.

Layers of masking tape, lace, washii tape,

drywall tape and cheesecloth were all adhered to the paper before being covered with a 

layer of Gesso.

While it was still wet I dropped some 

Cobalt Teal (fav color EVER!) acrylic paint from Golden 

onto the page and brushed it around.

Slate Glimmer mist was heavily misted and the page was tipped sideways

for the streaks.

There is stamping using both StazOn and Distress ink.

Stamps from Oxford Impressions, Tim Holtz and Club Scrap helped

add pattern to the background over the paint and other medias.

Petaloo flowers, Prima Die Cuts & metal bits

all were added to the page.

Several circles were hand drawn using a Distress Marker, Charcoal pencil, 

Sharpie and India ink.

Thread scraps were added around as well.

Believe…a Mixed Media canvas with Bonus Video Tutorial

Feeling in the Holiday spirit today

(even though it's grey and rainy outside).

I pulled out this background I created a while back,

my box of Christmas crafting goodies,

put on some carols and began to create.

I have also created a quick video for you on how I did the background of the canvas.

Using Acrylic Paint and Jet Dry (yes the stuff that goes in your dishwasher)

you can create a really cool distressed base for your art.

This is my finished piece...

Here is the video for you.

It's a super easy technique using items you probably already have on hand.

Once the background was completely dry I

stamped on it with various stamps and Solvent ink (i.e. StazOn)

and yes if you look closely my stamping is upside down.

From when I stamped to when I began adding my elements someone (blaming the 8yr old here)

turned it around.

Embrace the mistakes, they add character!

I also used acrylic paint with sequin waste as well as bubble wrap to stamp.

Old Rub Ons from my stash, some paint drips and some misting from Tattered Angels.

There are sequins scattered across the page from when I was cutting up the Prima floral cluster.

Nothing goes to waste here!

The focal cluster is made with dyed cheesecloth, half a doily, BoBunny metal and a bunch of Prima wood and flower. The big red flowers are handmade and purchased from an Etsy shop.

Some washii tape with music on it to remind me of the carols I was listening to.

Tim Holtz white Rub On snowflakes were scattered about.

The white just pops off the background.

Sketchabilities #128….Smile like no other

Another sketch has been released over on the 

Sketchabilities blog.

This is an awesome sketch just begging for a mixed media background.

Disclaimer

the layout I am sharing is the 2nd one I created with the sketch,

The 1st one was completely ruined when I was putting finishing touches on it and knocked over a brand new top off bottle of Dylusions mist…I'll pause while you all take a moment to groan lol.

Yet in the end I am far happier with version 2.

Meant to be I guess.

Anyway,

here is the sketch.

This is my take on it.

The background paper is from 

Blue Fern Studios.

I've worked with lots of their embellishments before but never the paper.

It holds up amazing to all the wet elements I put on.

I first added pattern with a Crafter's Workshop stencil and 

Distress Ink in Faded Jeans.

My foam pad on the blending tool wasn't clean so I unintentionally got some cool shading.

Then did some stamping using several background stamps and StazOn in black.

My title is made of letter stickers and Tim Holtz word stickers.

I used Modeling Paste with a Prima large stencil for the roses & vine.

When it was dry I added some Pan Pastel in Turquoise for color.

Wanting to highlight a bit more I added some color from a Spectrum Noir marker

and then with a q-tip dipped in blending solution took most of it off.

Some light misting with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist

in Slate.

Then more blobs of the same mist by flicking the tube.

Some Dresden foil trim, Tim Holtz rub ons, thread remnants and Prima gems finished it off.

Swirlydoos and the Treasured Yesterdays sketch

Sharing a layout today using the 

Treasured Yesterdays kit from Swirlydoos 

as well as the sketch.

This was the sketch included in the kit.

The sketch challenge runs until Nov 15 so I'm doing a happy dance.

I never get the sketch's done in time.

I did this month…whoo hoo!

Here is my layout.

Almost everything used came in the kit.

I added some mists, stamps, and in from my stash.

The background paper is from Prima's Epiphany collection.

Some misting with Trunk Bay Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels.

Black ink through a Dylusions stencil and stamping using a BoBunny & Kaisercraft stamp.

The large chipboard circle is from Blue Fern Studios

I colored it with Aqua Stained Glass medium from Tattered Angels and then misted with Slate Glimmer mist.

Holding my heat gun close I managed to make it bubble up a bit for more texture.

The flowers, wood pieces and clock stick pin all come from Prima as well.

Some lace was layered under the photo

 along with some journaling cards from Prima.

Prima sparkly gems were scattered across the page to finish it.

Some torn Fancy Pants corrugated cardboard was layered with the Prima papers 

for a pop of color.

It's all white now….and it's harder than it sounds!

So while I was checking out the challenges this month on the

Flying Unicorn Forum

I came across one hosted by Denise called

It's all white now.

Ok

My interest is peaked.

The rules:

 Your layout must be all white. Off white is ok and so is ivory but no color!
 You must use a black and white or sepia photo. No color pictures.
 You must use a stencil
 Must use Gesso, molding paste, or white paint.
 Must have at least 7 flowers.
Must have at least 1 embellie

I knew no matter what other challenges I did this month I HAD

to do this one.

It really is a challenge!

First off I had to find some white paper. 

Seeing as I apparently have used every piece of printed white paper I created my own background design on a piece of Bazzill Basics.

Using a large crackle stamp by Impression Obsession and white

embossing powder I created an all over background pattern.

My 7 flowers were a combination of fabric ones cut off a strip of tulle

and some Petaloo ones. 

The center beads were gold and I repainted them White with 

High Impact paint from Tattered Angels.

Modeling Paste through a Club Scrap stencil.

I heated it with my heat gun to get a bubbly sort of grunge effect to go with my photo.

You can see the embossing really well in this shot too.

The Moments title is a clear Prima sticker.

more embossing and paste.

You can also see where I melted the edges of my photo in spots,

started as an accident but was a happy one.

The melted edges so fit the photo.

Lace was layered under the photo 

and 2 stick pins were added as embellishments.

And this is my all white layout.

It was most definitely a challenge once I got going.

This girl needs color!

Swirlydoos November Round Robin

It's my turn to kick off a team for the 

Swirlydoos

Round Robin challenge.

This is the layout I created to start off Team 4.

The theme this month is 

CELEBRATING FAMILY.

The vast majority of supplies on this page came from the

Wistful Blues (August kit)

from Swirlydoos.

The background paper is from Riddersholm Designs

The photo is of the 5 of us + our adopted German

(she came one year as an exchange student and now comes back often as a part of the family)

Liverpool FC came and played a soccer game against AC Milan in our town this summer.

Our family is massive soccer fans and this was the highlight of the summer for sure.

I used Faded Jeans & Frayed Burlap Distress Inks through a Tim Holtz stencil.

Followed up with some more stamping using a Prima stamp and more Distress ink.

The flowers are Petaloo,  the wood buttons and title stickers are from Prima.

I added some cheesecloth and misted with my current favorite Glimmer Mist-Trunk Bay.

Some lace trim & metal chain finished it off.

The Best Thing About Sisters…..

I confess 

I "borrow" pictures from my kids instagram accounts all the time.

Some of the shots they get along with the filters

they add make me happy.

Even more what they write, goes from silly to inspiring.

Today I am sharing a layout I created using one such picture and the May kit from

Swirlydoos.

Since I absolutely loved what she had written I felt this time around I needed to include

it on the page.

The words are just as important as the picture here.

Papers are from Authentique and Kaisercraft.

Stenciling using a Crafter's Workshop stencil and Tsukineko ink.

Misted with Trunk Bay Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels.

The wooden letters are from Prima, the flowers from Petaloo.

There is also pieces of a Kaisercraft transparencies, lace and masking tape layered under

the photo.

Sisters

It's Friday (YAY)

and I'm ready to kick off the weekend with this piece.

Sharing a layout today created using the September kit from 

Swirlydoos.

I love how everything included just always "works" for what I want to create.

I took a pic of the 2 youngest on the first day of school.

(yes it was 2 months ago but I get distracted, or maybe I was just waiting for the kit)

They fight like cats and dogs most days but that morning it was all hugs and kisses.

The background paper is from Prima and Kaisercraft.

There is also a torn piece of free paper from an old Somerset Studio magazine under the photo.

Prima tags, Prima flowers, lace, clocks from Maya Road and cork hearts from

American Crafts.

Hard to see but there is a piece of Blue Fern Studios chipboard 

covered with Black Glitter Glue

and layered under the photo as well.

2 different Glimmer Mists were used on the background as well.

Mostly because half of my sprayers weren't working today, and ones that did quit half way through.

Major frustration!

Mojo Monday at Flying Unicorn

Every Monday on the 

Flying Unicorn forum a new sketch is revealed.

The Mojo Monday sketches are without a doubt gorgeous on their own.

You have a week to create a layout and enter in for a random prize drawing.

I always want to play but time seems to get away from me and before I know it the week has come and gone.

Not this time!

This is the sketch that was provided...

and this is what I created.

I used paper, flowers and several die cuts from a 

Flying Unicorn mixed media kit.

Can you say versatile?

The paper is from FabScraps.

Some dry brushed Gesso and stamping with a BoBunny stamp.

A piece of Glitz Design paper is layered with a doily, gauze,

Prima wood pieces, 7Dots Studio Die Cuts and some very old Melissa Frances stickers.

The flowers are from Prima.

My flourishes were created with Perfect Pearls on a transparency, trimmed and adhered with Glossy Accents.

This frame…Melissa Frances from 2007.

Love using up old product with new.
