Documented Life Project Week 24

Sharing my week 24 page from

The Documented Life project.

I'm really far behind now, but it's all good.

That's the joy of this project.

It's ok to fall behind, work out of order,

interpret how you wish, and create in a way that makes you happy.

The challenge for week 24 is this:

 Use book text

This is my page.

The background is a Gelli Print.

There was some white space so I used a Spectrum Noir marker to color it in.

Claudine Hellmuth acrylic paint was used with and UmWow circle stencil,

once the paint dried the circles were all outlined with a Faber Castell Pitt Artist pen in White.

I took an old dictionary page and colored it with various Gelatos

by Faber Castell, then blended them with a baby wipe.

I then freehand cut out circles in varying sizes and adhered them to my page.

They were then outlined with a Black Soot Distress marker and smudged.

                               

                               

The chevrons are created using a Club Scrap stencil and a Black Sharpie paint pen.

Some random stamping with a Kaisercraft script stamp and Archival ink.

The top sticker and sticker strips are from 7Dots Studio.

The heart in the center is an altered mini playing card created in 

Stephanie Ackerman's class.

On the back it has some journaling.

To finish off the page I took some Liquitex Acrylic ink in Carbon Black and 

flicked it randomly over the page.

I can't believe how chunky my book is getting.

I'll need to remind myself to share some photos soon.

Documented Life Week 20

Slowly but surely catching up on the week's that I have missed in

my 

Documented Life journal.

As always past and present challenges can be found HERE.

Today I worked on week 20:

Week 20 Challenge - Use a Rubber Stamp in a new way

Did I use a stamp in a new way?

Probably not, 

but I'm happy the way the page turned out.

I used a heart stamp to create wings for the bird on the right.

I also used a flower stamp to create a border,

having only half of each flower on the paper.

The flowers were colored with Faber Castell Big Brush Artist Pens.

The background is on one of the very first Gelli Prints I made.

Book text was torn & glued then colored with Acrylic paint

for the birds to stand on.

The birds are from a collage sheet I have had forever.

Lastly the title on my page came from words cut from a magazine.

I love the idea of what it says, and what it means.

We are all different (and should rejoice in such).

Documented Life Week 19….Acts of Kindness

Sharing my creation for week 19 in

The Documented Life Project.

The week's challenge was to create a page for 

Random Acts of Kindness.

My inspiration was more a quote than an actual act. 

I have always felt that you should be kind to others if you want kindness in return.

My front flap is a large tag I made while attending

a class taught by Stephanie Ackerman last night.

(lots of collaging and painting with our fingers---FUN!)

Opening the flap I have my quote.

The large heart here is the negative from the paper that I cut the heart on the tag from.

The pages were done with the same collaging, layering, painting techniques as the tag.

Documented Life Week 18 and Words of Wisdom

Life has been crazy busy lately and my 

pages for 

The Documented Life project

had fallen by the wayside.

Today though I finally finished up week 18

To showcase a favorite quote.

I have tons of "favorite" quotes but stumbled upon this was as I was working on my pages background…

For me it was perfect.

This is the flap closed. 

The background is done with Golden Fluid Acrylics,

Stencil Girl stencils, Pitt Pens and some random stamping.

This is the flap once it's open.

My quote comes from Toni Morrison.

Perfect as a mom of 3 watching them get older and older, yet always reminding them they are my babies forever and ever.

All the words were outlined with a charcoal pencil and smudged.

The Documented Life….Week 17

Good grief we are already 

17 weeks into the year.

My how time flies.

And speaking of time;

it's time for another 

Documented Life

challenge.

April 19, 2014 - Week 17 Challenge - Photograph or draw your favorite shoes.

Yay

For me Flip Flops are ALWAYS my shoe of choice.

and so this is what I created.

If you keep scrolling you'll even get a photo step by step

on how I created the page.

To begin I printed out a photo onto regular printer paper,

of our Flip Flops lined up at the beach.

I ripped the top & bottom and glued it to a sheet of paper I had had on my desk

to clean stamps, catch excess paint etc.

Added a few torn strips of Washii and masking tape.

Now to start adding color.

First I dry brushed Silks Acrylic Glaze

in Honey Amber.

Then added some Art Anthology

Stone Effects Dimensional Medium with a palette knife.

Love that it gives the look of a sandy beach.

Gelato was scribbled on in spots 

and then blended with my finger.

Little bit of Black Gelato in the upper corner and bottom.

Again smudged with my finger to give a bit of a shadow.

Some random stamping along the edges

with an acrylic stamp and Archival ink.

The bubble wrap was on my desk so why not use it.

Just painted some Golden Fluid Acrylic onto it and randomly stamped.

Here is a closeup of the shoes and dimensional medium.

I outlined my pair with a white gel pen just because.

Finally I added the words by

stamping on tissue paper with Archival ink.

Using Gel Medium I attached the words to the page.

The Gel medium with tissue paper makes the paper virtually disappear

and makes stamping on rough surfaces way easier.

So that's it.

Documented Life Project week 16 *Add Packaging*

After a week of having the kids home for Spring Break

I was finally able to do the week 16 challenge

for

The Documented Life Project.

The challenge this week….

April 12, 2014 - Week 16 Challenge - Add a cardboard food box in a creative way.

I though for a while on this.

I try to not buy much boxed food, and that that I did

have in my pantry was ehhh.

Then it struck me.

A while back I had placed a big order from 

Cheap Joe's

(located here in North Carolina)

and the box that it came in had some really fun graphics on the outside.

Perfect!

This is the flap as it is closed.

The images were slowly peeled from the corrugated cardboard

and colored with 

Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pens

This is the flap opened.

Are they not awesome.

Golden Fluid Acrylics in

Chromium Oxide Green, Yellow Ochre, Cadmium Red Med Hue & Manganese Blue Hue

were layered on.

This was definitely a case of not loving it immediately

but the more I added the more I liked.

Some clear Washii tape with numbers was added randomly.

Stamping with a Prima stamp and Archival Ink.

Black polka dotted Washii Tape.

(just cause it's fun)

and I pulled out some really old Rub Ons 

to use them up.

Documented Life week 15…MONOCHROME

Time for another week of

The Documented Life

WEEK 15 (gasp)

the challenge this week..

April 5, 2014 - Week 15 Challenge - Monochromatic: use shades, tints and hues of one color!

If you can't guess I went with blues.

They are always my go to color.

My wardrobe consists of mostly blues and when I and creating

Blue is what I pick first.

Here is my page…

Here are some closeups of the page.

I pulled out a Tim Holtz die and cut flowers with my leftover

bits of the background paper.

The quote comes from one of my favorite movies

A League of Their Own

while it's a baseball movie the quote so

fits the way I live my life.

I want challenges!

Now as promised my step by step.

I worked on a 12x 12 piece of paper to start.

Again the leftovers go into Happy Mail envelopes

(this time though after my flowers very little was left :( )

Started by first scraping Golden Fluid Acrylic across the page 

then misting with Dylusions.

I took a wet paintbrush and moved the color around even more

making drips and blobs

and all the things that make me happy.

Golden Acrylic paint and my finger

through a Stencil Girl Stencil.

More Golden paint 

and another Stencil Girl Stencil.

2 Colors of Liquitex Acrylic ink.

Use the dropper and add drops holding the dropper from about

6" over the paper.

Blow the inks out from the center.

Blow hard :)

Stamping with Solvent ink.

More stamping with another color of Solvent ink.

Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pen and an UmWow

stencil.

I just added random circles across the page.

Then I took my White Pitt Artist Pen

and highlighted the center of each circle.

Now my paper is ready to go and be turned into the page you first saw.

The week 3 challenge has been issued for

The Documented Life project

January 12 Challenge (Week Three) -  Add an envelope from your mailbox. Get creative and add the whole envelope or parts of the envelope.  Journal on it, write notes on it or use it as a pocket!

I save everything so had a bunch of envelopes to choose from.

In the end I chose a vintage one over a newer one.

I think the postmark on it said 1966 (before I was even born)

and the smaller size was perfect to hang off the edge a bit 

and hold a tag with journaling on it.

I first covered the page with vintage papers and

Tim Holtz Washii tape.

Then some stamps I have saved over the years off of letters received.

A thin layer of Gesso then color added with NeoColor II crayons.

Some stamping with StazOn ink and postmark stamps.

With this close up you can see some of the postage stamps and tape.

The little tag came attached to an RAK from a crafty friend.

I LOVE getting happy mail like that and had to incorporate it

into the page.

The circle number is for today's date.

The envelope is added on with more tape.

Little letters were glued down and then outlined 

with a Sharpie.

With the envelope and tag hanging out a bit from the page I am beginning to add character 

to my planner.

Along with the tags and what is yet to come my edges should be just

as fun as the inside.

What you see

What you see is what you get….

I'm totally caught up on my Documented Life journal.

Week 2's challenge was to incorporate a selfie.

This was harder than it sounds, I am the one always taken the pictures never the subject of them.

That is something I would like to change in 2014.

The background started as a recycled Gelli Print.

Stamping and stenciling went over it. I cut out my picture and used

another piece of recycled painted paper towel (can you tell I save everything)

to layer over the bottom of my photo and sort of incorporate it into the page.

I then used some Ranger Distress Paint dabbers and randomly applied paint in spots.

Some number Washii tape and more stamping.

Keeping with my goal to use my handwriting in my work I 

wrote what I was feeling.

With me you tend to always know where you stand.

(somedays it's a good thing to be blunt others not so much)

Finally the big title is an old Rub on.

Another goal is to really use up what I have in my craft room.

I can't keep buying and not use what I already have, so here we go.

Boy every time I work I think of a new crafty goal…
