I try and participate in the round robin challenge every month at Swirlydoos. It's a month long challenge that starts out with week one someone posts a layout, then each week following a person on her team creates their own take on it. It's kind of like the old game telephone that I used to play as a kid. One person would whisper something in the ear of the person next to them and it would go around the room. It was always funny when it got back to the beginning to see how everyone had interpreted it.
This challenge is like that only with art, and while it's fun to see how the original layout eveolves over the month it's also always amazing to me the gorgeous art that is created each time, no matter what the twist (and oh yes there is always a twist...this is a challenge after all).
The theme for the month of September was friends, the twist was (or at least the one I chose) was to use stuff from the oldest Swirl kit you own.
I used a picture of me and my 2 scrappy besties, I love these women like they are my own blood and wish I could see them more often in person. I printed my photo onto canvas paper using the vintage tool on my photo editing software. I wanted the colors to be somewhat muted for this page.
As for the oldest Swirly stuff I own, I used the last of a kit from back in 2009 I think it was. I had 2 pieces of paper left over from a kit and it worked well with the colors in my picture.
I embellished the layout with flowers from an Etsy store called Funtoolas (I love her handmade flowers) as well as little Prima ones, buttons and leftover bits of flourishes. I journaled around the edge of the die cut to tell my story.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
