Swirlydoos June Round Robin

It's my turn to create a layout for
the monthly Round Robin challenge at

I've said it before, this is one of my favorite challenges out there.
Telephone for the scrappy land.
This month's challenge (hosted as always by the wonderful Ms Peggy)
went like this….
And now for this month’s twist: As the title of this Round Robin suggests, it’s all about misting!!! Now, I KNOW that as Swirly Savages, each and every one of you has enough bottles of mist to stock your own LSS. Why not take out a bunch of them and have some fun? There’s so much that you can do with them: masking & stenciling, dripping, splatting, splashing… You can color your mediums, you can color your laces and trims, you can color your flowers and chippies… Or maybe you have a favorite technique that you’d like to share with the rest of us…

Misting!!!!!
This month's challenge was made for me lol.
This is what I created after following Maggi, Steph & Jeannie.
I used the April kit from Swirlydoos,
added Modeling Paste, Washii tape,
stencils, stamping and more.

Modeling Paste through a Prima stencil.
Silks through an UmWow stencil.
All the trims and bling came in the kit.

The chipboard circles are from Blue Fern Studios and were colored with Silk's Acrylic Glaze.
Lindy's Stamp Gang and Tattered Angels Mists in shades of blue were used for my drippings.
The stamped circles are from Tim Holtz.

The little flowers are from Prima and were misted with
Tiffany's Blue from Lindy's
(my bottle is empty sob, this is my favorite blue).

Make sure you stop by and check out the Round Robin thread and see how each group created and lifted each other.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Documented Life Week 20

Slowly but surely catching up on the week's that I have missed in
my
Documented Life journal.

As always past and present challenges can be found HERE.

Today I worked on week 20:
Week 20 Challenge - Use a Rubber Stamp in a new way
Did I use a stamp in a new way?
Probably not,
but I'm happy the way the page turned out.

I used a heart stamp to create wings for the bird on the right.
I also used a flower stamp to create a border,
having only half of each flower on the paper.
The flowers were colored with Faber Castell Big Brush Artist Pens.

The background is on one of the very first Gelli Prints I made.
Book text was torn & glued then colored with Acrylic paint
for the birds to stand on.
The birds are from a collage sheet I have had forever.

Lastly the title on my page came from words cut from a magazine.
I love the idea of what it says, and what it means.
We are all different (and should rejoice in such).

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Sketchabilities #117

I woke up before everyone this morning and took
advantage of the quiet house to create.
I used a sketch from
as my jumping off point.

The paper and embellishments are from the
Swirlydoos May kit.
Here is the sketch….
And this is my interpretation.
The base is a piece of distressed cardboard.
The paper is from Authentique.

The cluster includes flowers from Petaloo,
Bling from Prima,
Chipboard, burlap and DieCuts from Kaisercraft.

The background has Modeling Paste,
stamping, stenciling, and dripping of Liquitex Acrylic Ink.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Make Your Heart Happy….Create!

The kids are home for summer vacation and while
vacation implies peace, relaxation and no time constraints for us it's just the opposite.
I think we are running around more than we do during school and it's
seriously cutting into my craft time and making me a wee bit cranky.

I HAD to carve some creating time today.
Did up a quick Art Journal page on a background already created by cleaning my stamps and stencils.

The heart (yes I'm still in a heart mood) was added and colored with acrylic paint.
Dylusions was misted, dripped and blown around it.

Create, I just needed to make SOMETHING!

There were some white spots still on the background so I misted with yellow,
 blue and orange mists.

Quick page,
but I'm not so grumpy now.
Art, it's good for the soul.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Baby Love

hosts challenges every month on their forum board.
I love checking them out and joining up when I can.

This layout was created for one of them.
USE YOUR STASH
You had to create a layout using paper at least 6 months old,
and incorporate at least 2 embellishments that old as well.

6 months!!!!!
I'm a HOARDER
(probably why I am on the Craft Hoarders Anonymous design team lol)
6 months is nothing!

I went with Basic Grey paper from 2011.
The Out of Print series which I have hoarded for a VERRRRRRYYYYY
long time.

I added some stamping with a Prima stamp.
Lindy's Stamp Gang embossing powder was used after ink was rubbed
through a Dylusions stencil to create the diamonds.

The chipboard is from UmWow Studios.
Covered in the same embossing powder as my diamonds.
There is also some Washii tape layered about.
There is some Pink Silk's Acrylic glaze rubbed around the page for a bit of added color.

The flowers, buttons and white chipboard flourish are even older than the paper,
we are talking years here (told you I HOARD).
The letters are black foam Thickers, of which I have sheets and sheets of.

I've used up some stash today, that means I can shop more, right????
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge 10…and Hopping with Stencil Girl Stencils!!

It's time for challenge 10 at

This week the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog is changing it up...with a blog hop! Challenge #10 is ready at the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog but we are doing things a bit differently this time! We are doing a week-long blog hop with STENCIL GIRL!

Each day this week you will visit the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog see the fabulous designs of the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Team, and then you will visit the StencilGirl Talk Blog to see what their team is doing! For the blog hop order, see the end of the post.

Now, for the challenge!

Challenge #10 Spray It! Ink It! Paint It! Smear It! Emboss It!
Show us your inner mixed media diva! Use spray mists, inks, paints, modeling paste, embossing powder, pastels, chalk, and whatever messy media you can find! Let's dig into that hoard, pull out some of that "messy stuff," and use it up! There is a mess-maker hiding in all of you! Let her/him out to play!

I created this 9x12 canvas for the challenge.
If you keep scrolling I even have a step by step on how the background was created.
Stencil Girl Stencils used for this piece:

Some closeups...

Supplies:
Stencil Girl stencils
Tim Holtz stamps
Unity Stamp
Washii tape
Archival ink
Gelatos
Silks Acrylic paint
Golden fluid acrylics & Liquitex acrylic paint
Book text
Dylusions mist
Lindys Stamp Gang Starburst Spray
Gesso

Remember I said there was a step by step on how I created the background?
Well here you go….
Cover a canvas with torn pieces of book text and Washii tape.
Don't cover the whole canvas, the paint will react differently with the different surfaces adding some interesting texture later on.

Give a very light wash of Gesso over the canvas.
Wipe off most of it, you aren't covering the text, just toning it down.

Using the 9x12 Map stencil add Grey paint to the canvas.

Use the 6x6 Broken Circles stencil and teal paint.
Add the circles randomly across the canvas.

Mist with Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Spray
Lift the canvas so the mist drips down, then dry.

Stamp in spots with the checkerboard stamp from Tim Holtz and Archival ink.

Use the 6x6 Circle Rays stencil and Orange Gelato.
Add several spots of the rays and orange.

Using Teal Zircon Silks Acrylic Glaze and my finger
I added spots of color in areas.

I repeated this again using Snapdragon Silks Acrylic Glaze and my finger.
Both times just to add a bit more color, and using my finger really lets me rub and blend the color in.

I stamped the stars (again Tim Holtz) using Archival Ink.

And added a large heart cut from book text.
Finished it off with a stamped sentiment and a burst of Vibrant Turquoise mist from Dylusions.
