Sharing an Art Journal page today.

This one came about while I was working on a canvas piece.

I was using a blank page in my journal to clean the paint off from my brush as I worked.

(bonus: doing this gives you a ready made background next time you want to work in your journal)

Anyway as I worked on the canvas I was drawn more and more to my journal.

To the point the canvas is sitting on my desk waiting to be finished.

I had an idea for the page and I had to go with it.

I used Liquitex acrylic paints for the background.

There wasn't a whole lot of thinking at that point, it was all about not wasting paint.

My butterfly was created using a Crafter's Workshop stencil.

I traced it then filled the inside with tore book text.

A light wash of Gesso and then added color with my Gelatos,

blending as I went with my finger.

I used the second part of the stencil to overlay the swirls using Silk's Acrylic Glaze 

and finally outlining with a black Gelato.

Black Marble Dylusions mist through a number stencil in random spots.

The black has got to be one of my favorites as for how dark it stays.

There is also lots of random stamping using several stamps and inks (Staz-On and Distress inks)

The words were stamped on tissue paper and then adhered to the page.

I was watching an episode of Project Runway the other day.

In it Tim Gunn and one of the designers were sitting by the water talking and these words were stenciled on a rock.

From the moment I saw them I knew I had to use them.

We all have magic, we just need to use it.

Swirlydoos June Round Robin

It's my turn to create a layout for

the monthly Round Robin challenge at 

Swirlydoos.

I've said it before, this is one of my favorite challenges out there.

And now for this month’s twist: As the title of this Round Robin suggests, it’s all about misting!!! Now, I KNOW that as Swirly Savages, each and every one of you has enough bottles of mist to stock your own LSS. Why not take out a bunch of them and have some fun? There’s so much that you can do with them: masking & stenciling, dripping, splatting, splashing… You can color your mediums, you can color your laces and trims, you can color your flowers and chippies… Or maybe you have a favorite technique that you’d like to share with the rest of us…

Misting!!!!!

This month's challenge was made for me lol.

This is what I created after following Maggi, Steph & Jeannie.

I used the April kit from Swirlydoos,

added Modeling Paste, Washii tape,

stencils, stamping and more.

Modeling Paste through a Prima stencil.

Silks through an UmWow stencil.

All the trims and bling came in the kit.

The chipboard circles are from Blue Fern Studios and were colored with Silk's Acrylic Glaze.

Lindy's Stamp Gang and Tattered Angels Mists in shades of blue were used for my drippings.

The stamped circles are from Tim Holtz.

The little flowers are from Prima and were misted with

Tiffany's Blue from Lindy's

(my bottle is empty sob, this is my favorite blue).

The Documented Life….Week 17

Good grief we are already 

17 weeks into the year.

My how time flies.

And speaking of time;

it's time for another 

Documented Life

challenge.

April 19, 2014 - Week 17 Challenge - Photograph or draw your favorite shoes.

Yay

For me Flip Flops are ALWAYS my shoe of choice.

and so this is what I created.

If you keep scrolling you'll even get a photo step by step

on how I created the page.

To begin I printed out a photo onto regular printer paper,

of our Flip Flops lined up at the beach.

I ripped the top & bottom and glued it to a sheet of paper I had had on my desk

to clean stamps, catch excess paint etc.

Added a few torn strips of Washii and masking tape.

Now to start adding color.

First I dry brushed Silks Acrylic Glaze

in Honey Amber.

Then added some Art Anthology

Stone Effects Dimensional Medium with a palette knife.

Love that it gives the look of a sandy beach.

Gelato was scribbled on in spots 

and then blended with my finger.

Little bit of Black Gelato in the upper corner and bottom.

Again smudged with my finger to give a bit of a shadow.

Some random stamping along the edges

with an acrylic stamp and Archival ink.

The bubble wrap was on my desk so why not use it.

Just painted some Golden Fluid Acrylic onto it and randomly stamped.

Here is a closeup of the shoes and dimensional medium.

I outlined my pair with a white gel pen just because.

Finally I added the words by

stamping on tissue paper with Archival ink.

Using Gel Medium I attached the words to the page.

The Gel medium with tissue paper makes the paper virtually disappear

and makes stamping on rough surfaces way easier.

So that's it.

I created a piece using the theme

and...

Here is what I created.

I started with a blank page in my art journal and randomly add some torn pages from a book.

Misted with Buccaneer Bronze Moonshadow mist from Lindy's Stamp Gang.

Some Distress Paints and Silk's Acrylic Glazes on top of that.

Cheesecloth and Rub ons

I fussy cut the flower from a piece of Prima paper.

The image was a free one in a Stampington magazine.

Chipboard colored with Distress Paint, then a Copper Paint dabber 

and finally rubbed with black ink.

Prima letter stickers were outlined with Sharpie to give my title.

This is a Color Challenge with a twist. Pick the thing or things that you seem to hoard the most, and using the color scheme shown below, create a project that showcases your hoarded item or items. Do you hoard buttons, beads, ribbon, papers, stickers? Show your hoard, but only the items that match the color scheme!

 (Please note, you do not have to use all the colors in the photo, nor match the colors exactly. Just use the photo and the colors to inspire you to dig through your hoard.)

What do I hoard?

Everything lol,

But all joking aside I really really love my coloring mediums.

Inks, Mists, Paints and more,

if it can add color then I MUST have it.

Here is just a small sampling of my color hoard for this challenge.

Here is my layout I created.

Blues are probably my most favorite color to work with so this page came together easy peasy.

This is how I started to add the color to my base…

First several pieces of Pink Paislee paper from my hoard;

Misted with Frost Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels,

Silks Acrylic Glaze through a Stencil Girl stencil.

Blue Washii tape.

Stamping with a BoBunny stamp & Colorbox ink.

More stamping with a circle stamp that was painted with Lindy's Stamp Gang.

Here you can see some of the mist dripping, the stamped circles 

(Lindy's Stamp Gang Ocean Breeze Blue)

and some of the tape.

More stamping and stenciling,

the words were cut from a piece of Pink Paislee paper.

White Prima flowers were painted with Silver Bells 

Silks Acrylic Glaze.

Small pearls were added to the center and blue star brads were scattered about.

The Documented LIfe WEEK 9!

How are we already at week 9?

The year is flying by if I do say so myself.

Anyway, It's time for another challenge for

The Documented Life project

This weeks challenge

February 22, 2014 Challenge (Week Nine) - Collage something you recycled.

Now I love collaging.

Not so good with doodling or drawing but I can easily collage the day away.

I wound up going fairly simple on this one though.

It didn't seem to need anything else.

Here is sort of step by step as I created.

This time I did it on a page outside of my journal and I glued it in.

Just how I felt like working today.

I started with used paper towels from my desk.

I keep them on hand as I use paints and mists and after they dry I like to incorporate them into my work.

This paper towel even had a little sat,ping already on it.

Separated the layers (there were 2) and tore them up.

Covered the base with the paper towels and gel medium 

(layer of medium under and over the towels).

Once the Gel Medium was dry I randomly stamped with a

Hampton Art script stamp and Archival ink.

(Archival ink works well on glossy surfaces giving crisp images and is permanent once dry).

Then some Silks Acrylic glaze through a Crafters Workshop stencil

to create circles.

Once the Silks circles were dry I used a fine tip paintbrush and outlined them with

Carbon Black Acrylic Ink by Liquitex.

I then used a white gel pen and added some circles inside the circles

 (you can see in the finished piece).

Another of my recycled items.

Last week was my daughter's birthday and for a present she received some bracelets.

Now the jewelry was pretty but what I really coveted was the bag they came in.

To my collage it will be added.

I also took an old scrap of a map piece and tore a heart out of it.

I wound up liking the piece I tore it from better than the heart so that was added as well.

Machine stitching around the edges or the page,

the heart and my birds.

This came from a paper bag that was acquired on a trip to Paris.

The Documented Life week 8

Time to share another piece done for 

The Documented Life project.

This week's challenge:

February 15, 2014  Challenge (Week Eight) - Add a flap to your flap.

I had been working on a upcoming tutorial for 

my mixed media post over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles

which will be available next week.

I was using tags as my demonstrating piece 

and KNEW 

that I wanted to incorporate one into this week's challenge.

The base page is dark colors representing the nasty Winter we have had,

with the tag being bright to represent Spring 

which I desperately want to come.

Here are some pictures to show the tag half opened,

then all the way stretched out.

The colors going from dark to light.

Here is the tag pulled down instead of lifted up.

The tag:

the colors on here were created using a variety of Distress Stains, 

Distress Inks, Dylusions Mists, Gesso,

 and Silks Acrylic Glaze

The stamping was all done using Archival ink.

Some of my circles were created using Silks through a Crafter's Workshop stencil,

then outlined with a silver paint pen.

(my white one decided to stop working ggrrrr)

On the back of my tag

I added a little note.

The fold out connecting the tag to the page.

I love how this acme out.

Distress Inks, Stains, Gesso, Silks Acrylic Glaze,

and Dylusions Mists.

The base page for winter.

This I used some really old Nick Bantock dye inks.

So old they were for the most part dried up.

Still by rubbing the ink directly onto the paper I could spread and blend the color 

with a baby wipe.

There is also Gesso, more Silks, Crafter's Workshop stencil,

Dylusions, stamping with Archival ink,

stamping with paint, Washii tape and 

Machine stitching.

Swirlydoos Round Robin

It's time for another layout done for a 

Round Robin

at 

Swirlydoos.

In case you don't know how it works,

week one someone shares a layout, the next week someone shares their take on it 

and so on and so on.

Kind of like the game of Telephone but with scrapbook layouts.

Here is mine for this week.

I am on Team 1 and followed Hanne & Cheryl.

The twist this month

Something warm. I don’t care what it is as long as it’s WARM!!!!!!!!!!

Laughing but I have to agree with our hostess.

I want warm!

I used the October 2013 kit from Swirlydoos

The Sweetest Thing

with BoBunny papers.

I also pulled in a piece of Pink Paislee & a piece of handmade paper.

My photo of warm is Venice. 

When we went it hit the upper 90s every single day.

I am missing 90 degree weather right about now...

I also did a little bit of random stamping with a Kaisercraft stamp.

My "warm" place.

Doilies and flowers layered under and around it.

Chipboard is from Dusty Attic  and painted with

Silks Acrylic Glaze

Some Tsukineko ink was also rubbed through a Crafter's Workshop stencil.
