Sharing another Art Journal page today.

Been down with a cold / flu for a week and a half

(way to early in the season!)

So haven't done much creating.

Finally starting to feel better and pulled out my AJ yesterday.

Created a page on a base of leftover paint from making postcards a while back.

I always use pages in my journal for the extra paint from projects, takes that blank page syndrome away.

So the base was leftover paint.

I then splattered some Liquitex Acrylic ink in Carbon Black

randomly across the page.

Then some music lines were stamped using Archival ink.

The hearts are leftover painted papers from my heart postcards

aslo a few weeks back.

Seriously I don't throw ANYTHING away.

They were then outlined with a Derwent Intense pencil.

The pink painted scraps also came from an old project.

Dylusions mist in Vibrant Turquoise was sprayed heavily in spots

and let drip.

A sentiment was stamped on a scrap of Gelli printed tissue paper

and outlined with a white gel pen.

More doodling with the white pen in spots.

The circles are made using a cardboard tube and white

acrylic paint.

I like how the paint reactivated the Dyslusions mist in spots and drew up

some of the color to tint it.

Finally there was Distress ink in Black Soot

used with a stencil from Stencil Girl Stencils to add

words to the background as a last layer.

Think I need a new ink pad, it was pretty light but in the end it was just what I was looking for.

Feels good to be back making things.

Background Tutorial...(with a give away)

Today I want to share a background tutorial with everyone.

This background will be turned into mixed media postcards for a swap I found over at

MixedMedia.club

and hosted by Lisa Vollrath who can be found at TenTwo Studios .

(I have been a fan of her collage sheets for years)

Anyhoo

I am in a use up mode lately.

Trying to use the items I have around my house rather than go buy the newest latest & greatest.

I realize over the years I have bought and bought...now I need to USE!

This background uses what I have on hand,

nothing fancy or special today, yet in the end I have a unique background waiting to be turned into

6 postcards.

Several for the swap and several left over.

So let's begin...

First up I am using a 12x 12 piece of card stock (which I have piles and piles of)

You don't need special heavy weight paper for mixed media projects, I find that card stock works well for just about everything I am doing right now.

I tore some Washii tape and added strips here and there.

Squirted on some blue Americana acrylic paint (again I love my fluid acrylics but you know what...inexpensive craft paint works just as well for these) craft

Spread it with a brush and squirt on some green paint by Plaid Folk Art.

Using the same brush spread it around.

Some orange...

And some yellow. Again these are the paints you can buy sometimes on sale 3 for a dollar etc.

Nothing fancy.

I still had some white space so went back in and added a bit more color.

I took a fan brush and dry brushed some Liquitex unbleached titanium

to calm everything down and blend some edges. Wipe most of the paint off on a piece of scrap paper first, I wanted just a touch of the light color.

A script stamp and Archival ink...perfect for use on paints.

It dries quick and smudge proof. Script stamps are some of my favorite ones, they find their way onto just about everything I do.

A circle stamp by Club Scrap and Teal Blue StazOn ink.

This is where a mistake happened but turn the mistake into a happy design element.

I was using a mister with water & acrylic paint inside. The mister clogged so I took the nozzle off and started flicking, until I forgot I had the open bottle in my hand and tipped it over.

Yes...I meant to do that lol

Dylusions mist through a Crafter's Workshop stencil in areas.

Stamping with numbers and Archival ink.

I went back with the same stencil and used it with Gesso this time.

In some spots I got white diamonds, others the Gesso reactivated the Dylusions mist and it absorbed and was tinted by the mist.

I went into my drawer full of rub ons.

You know the ones I HAD TO HAVE and never use.

Well here I just applied a bunch of the little tab ones randomly around the page.

Remember this is going to be cut up so each postcard will have a similar but different background.

Lastly some Punchinella and the same yellow paint as used on the background before.

I just rubbed it through with my finger here and there.

And here is the finished background all ready to be cut up.

Use Your Magic

Sharing an Art Journal page today.

This one came about while I was working on a canvas piece.

I was using a blank page in my journal to clean the paint off from my brush as I worked.

(bonus: doing this gives you a ready made background next time you want to work in your journal)

Anyway as I worked on the canvas I was drawn more and more to my journal.

To the point the canvas is sitting on my desk waiting to be finished.

I had an idea for the page and I had to go with it.

I used Liquitex acrylic paints for the background.

There wasn't a whole lot of thinking at that point, it was all about not wasting paint.

My butterfly was created using a Crafter's Workshop stencil.

I traced it then filled the inside with tore book text.

A light wash of Gesso and then added color with my Gelatos,

blending as I went with my finger.

I used the second part of the stencil to overlay the swirls using Silk's Acrylic Glaze

and finally outlining with a black Gelato.

Black Marble Dylusions mist through a number stencil in random spots.

The black has got to be one of my favorites as for how dark it stays.

There is also lots of random stamping using several stamps and inks (Staz-On and Distress inks)

The words were stamped on tissue paper and then adhered to the page.

I was watching an episode of Project Runway the other day.

In it Tim Gunn and one of the designers were sitting by the water talking and these words were stenciled on a rock.

From the moment I saw them I knew I had to use them.

We all have magic, we just need to use it.

Art Journal page for today

Sharing another page from my Art Journal today.

I have a ton of this to do but as usual I'm more in the mood to just mess around and create just to create.

This one started as a sheet where I had cleaned stencils off from another project.

If you look closely you can still see some of the patterns on the bottom layer.

Followed by layering both sewing pattern tissue paper

as well as polka dot tissue paper.

Some stamping with a Tim Holtz stamp and StazOn ink.

More misting with Dylusions mists to add some pops of color.

Followed up with some Stained Glass glaze medium by Tattered Angels.

Love how it is sheer enough to let everything under show up but still adds some vibrant color.

The stars are created using a Crafter's Workshop stencil and white acrylic paint pen.

The center piece is a tag from Canvas Corp.

It's also colored with the Tattered Angels glaze medium.

Heavy at the top and less at the bottom.

Now off to actually get some of my to do list done before the kids get home.

Be an Encourager (and Happy 4th America!)

While today in the United States

it's the 4th of July (our country's Independence Day)

and everybody is celebrating with cookouts, family, parades and fireworks;

I'm sharing a bit of art before our household starts celebrating.

(oh and fits in viewing of 2 World Cup semi final games as well…busy day!)

The quote I use on my page is another I have found on Pinterest

but sums up my one of my philosophies pretty easily.

Be an Encourager.

It's easy to break people down, but helping build them up…

That is truly rewarding, and how I try to live my life daily.

Anyway,

enough rambling and on to the art.

My background started, as many do in this art journal,

from me cleaning stamps and stencils off after using paints and inks.

Some Modeling Paste was scraped through a Prima stencil

for texture, then Dylusions mists in several colors were misted and dripped.

Some Bright Aqua Green acrylic paint was randomly scraped across the page

after pieces of masking tape had been placed down.

Stamping with several stamps--some before I started the page like the script one in the corner, and some after I began, the crosshatch one.

Black Marble Dylusions mist through an alphabet stencil.

Black paint through an UmWow circle stencil then outlined with a white Sharpie pen.

My heart was created using a Crafter's Workshop stencil, Gesso,

and then colored with Gelatos.

Make Your Heart Happy….Create!

The kids are home for summer vacation and while

vacation implies peace, relaxation and no time constraints for us it's just the opposite.

I think we are running around more than we do during school and it's

seriously cutting into my craft time and making me a wee bit cranky.

I HAD to carve some creating time today.

Did up a quick Art Journal page on a background already created by cleaning my stamps and stencils.

The heart (yes I'm still in a heart mood) was added and colored with acrylic paint.

Dylusions was misted, dripped and blown around it.

Create, I just needed to make SOMETHING!

There were some white spots still on the background so I misted with yellow,

blue and orange mists.

Quick page,

but I'm not so grumpy now.

Art, it's good for the soul.

Baby Love

Flying Unicorn

hosts challenges every month on their forum board.

I love checking them out and joining up when I can.

This layout was created for one of them.

USE YOUR STASH

You had to create a layout using paper at least 6 months old,

and incorporate at least 2 embellishments that old as well.

6 months!!!!!

I'm a HOARDER

(probably why I am on the Craft Hoarders Anonymous design team lol)

6 months is nothing!

I went with Basic Grey paper from 2011.

The Out of Print series which I have hoarded for a VERRRRRRYYYYY

long time.

I added some stamping with a Prima stamp.

Lindy's Stamp Gang embossing powder was used after ink was rubbed

through a Dylusions stencil to create the diamonds.

The chipboard is from UmWow Studios.

Covered in the same embossing powder as my diamonds.

There is also some Washii tape layered about.

There is some Pink Silk's Acrylic glaze rubbed around the page for a bit of added color.

The flowers, buttons and white chipboard flourish are even older than the paper,

we are talking years here (told you I HOARD).

The letters are black foam Thickers, of which I have sheets and sheets of.

I've used up some stash today, that means I can shop more, right????
